Mole and skin recognition clinics
The rate of new cases of skin cancer in Jersey is approximately double that of the United Kingdom and rising each year. In response to this concern, we now offer weekly mole clinics at Island Medical Centre. The clinic is run by a number of our GPs who have received specialist training in skin cancer recognition and the use of Dermatoscopes (a specialised instrument used to look at the skin under high magnification).
The clinic aims to identify skin cancers that already exist and skin lesions that may turn into cancers if left untreated.
Please make an appointment if you have any of the following:
- A new skin growth that you are worried about
- A mole that is changing in size, shape, colour or texture
- A mole that itches or bleeds
- A large number of moles that you find difficult to monitor
Following the assessment the doctor will advise on treatment options and if surgical removal or biopsy is recommended Island Medical Centre may be able to offer this service. Where appropriate onward referral to the hospital specialist dermatology clinic will be arranged.
