performance and ultimately a strong economy.
Health seeks to promote and maintain the physical, mental and social wellbeing
of workers. It explores the effects of
work on a person’s health and also the effects of a person’s health on their
ability to work.
Health professionals provide independent advice to management and employees on
preventing work-related ill health and injury, ensuring employees are fit to
undertake their duties, improving working environments and cultures and
optimizing the management and rehabilitation of affected workers.
Occupational Heath services also help organisations fulfil their statutory duties under Jersey employment legislation. Under the Health and Safety at Work (Jersey) Law 1989, businesses of all sizes have a legal duty to ensure that the health and safety of employees and others, such as members of the public, is not adversely affected by their work activities. Dependant on the type of work being carried out, work activities may also be subject to additional Health and Safety Regulations and/or Approved Codes of Practice. The Discrimination (Disability) (Jersey) Regulations 2018 require employers to consider ‘reasonable adjustments’ to enable those with a disability to work effectively and safely.
