This investigation monitors your heart when you are doing normal activities and detects abnormal heart rates and rhythms.

At Island Medical Centre we offer the advanced Bittium Faros device which is simple and comfortable to use and enables you to continue with normal activities, including showering, whilst the heart recording is undertaken.

Screening for atrial fibrillation

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common cause of stroke but can be difficult to pick up when intermittent. For those with a history of stroke where no cause has been found a 2 week ambulatory ECG helps to identify any background AF. Similarly a 2 week study is indicated in those with a diagnosis of sleep apnoea in which the risk of AF and therefore future stroke is significantly raised.
